We Love our PTA
Anza Elementary School highly values our local unit of the Parent
Teacher Association (PTA) and encourages your support and participation.
The PTA holds Association meetings five times per year, in conjunction
with schoolwide evening activities. You are also welcome and encouraged
to attend the monthly PTA Board Meetings. Dates and times are
listed in the school calendar.
Anza's annual PTA membership drive is held in September. Your
membership is valued. We encourage everyone to join this important
child advocacy organization. PTA membership dues are used at Anza
and for children everywhere at the local, State, and National
levels.

PURPOSES OF THE PTA:
- To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school,
community, and place of worship.
- To raise the standards of home life.
- To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children
and youth.
- To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that
parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education
of children and youth.
- To develop between educators and the
general public such united efforts as will secure for all
children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental,
social and spiritual education.
PTA Mission Statement
The mission of the California State PTA is to represent our members
and to empower and support them with skills in advocacy, leadership,
and communication to positively impact the lives of all children.
What does the Anza PTA do?
The PTA sponsors a wide variety of activities and programs
at Anza, including:
- Adventures in Art: Its time for art! Adventures
in Art is a widely successful PTA-sponsored program staffed by
volunteers like you who know the importance of art in your
child?s education. Five exciting, age-appropriate art projects
designed by local artists will help Anza students learn basic
art techniques and art history, discover the properties of
various media and explore their own creativity and imagination.
This year's projects are:
- Tinwork Tiles: A Mexican Folk Art
- Masks of Mexico
- The Color of Snow
- Pastel Wolf
- Multi-face-eted
No artistic skill or experience is
needed to be an Adventures in Art docent or classroom assistant
(really!) We will teach you everything you need to know and
provide all the art materials. Besides donating your time you
only need a love for helping students and an appreciation for
exploring new ideas. If you are interested in becoming a docent,
classroom assistant or just want to find out more, please call
Tamlynn Clyde at (310) 540-4748 or e-mail
Tamlynn Clyde. We need several volunteers from each
classroom, so call today!
- Anza Copy Club: PTA organizes and trains
volunteers to do the office work and copying that teachers need
done daily, allowing the teachers to focus on their students.
- AnzaGram: The PTA publishes a newsletter five
(5) times per year, just prior to the Association meetings. The
AnzaGram contains information regarding schoolwide activities.
- Assemblies: Educational assemblies are arranged
for and funded by the PTA working with the school staff.
- Communicator: Volunteers collate flyers from
the office, district, PTA, and community. These are put into
packets to come home on Wednesdays, so parents always know when
to expect information to be in their children's backpacks.
- Community Activities: The PTA organizes and
sponsors a range of events that include firefighter, military,
and police recognition; Community Service projects; and book,
food and toy drives
- Emergency Preparedness: The PTA is vital in the
organization and equipping of Anza's program for Emergency and
Disaster preparedness. This includes first aid supplies, safety
equipment, and basic survival needs for the students in case of
a large emergency event.
- Family Events: Throughout the year, PTA
schedules and sponsors events to encourage families to get
together with their children and with other families. These
include picnics, evening programs, and other fun activities for
all ages.
- Library: The school library is staffed by PTA
volunteers who enable classes to visit weekly. The only funding
for books in the library comes from the PTA through Bookfair
profits.
- Room Representatives: Room
representatives(reps) serve as a liaison between the teacher,
parents and the PTA to recruit volunteers for field trips, class
parties, and major school events. Parents interested in serving
as a room rep. should contact their child's teacher.
- Technology: The technology committee of the PTA
has been instrumental in the upgrading of computers in the
classrooms and the computer lab, and continues to work to
maintain up-to-date equipment and software for the students at
Anza.
- Other programs include the support of P.E./Recess
equipment purchases, the Bike Rodeo, Eagle Readers, Red Ribbon
Week (Drug Awareness), Fifth Grade Day, Funds for Student
Welfare needs, Memory Books (Yearbooks), the Reflections
Program, Science Fair, Student End-of-Year Awards, the Variety
Show, and a multicultural celebration.
- Fundraisers: The PTA is not a fundraising
organization, however, it is necessary to sponsor fund-raisers
in order to provide assemblies, field trips, and other programs
and activities for Anza students. The PTA sponsors two major
fund-raisers annually, gift wrap sales (Fall), and the
Jog-a-thon (Spring).
If you have any questions please contact the
person in charge of the program, the responsible Vice-President,
or President Amy Rochford.
